Wilkerr are part of a unique cross-border dingo population living across the Big Desert, Wyperfeld and Ngarkat landscape.

 

In Victoria, this population is now protected. Just across the South Australian border, dingoes south of the Dog Fence are still managed under an eradication framework, including in landscapes connected to Ngarkat Conservation Park.

 

This matters because Wilkerr are not just “wild dogs”. This matters because Wilkerr are not simply “wild dogs”. They are a genetically distinct dingo population that is small, isolated, severely inbred and already vulnerable.

 

South Australians can help by asking their local MPs to seek clear answers from the Minister about:

• population surveys and monitoring
• genetic testing
• the evidence behind livestock-loss claims
• First Nations consultation
• conservation risk assessments
• lethal control in and around Ngarkat
